How to Design a Custom Pin It Button

Design Your Custom Pin-It Button

For this tutorial, you’ll need to create an image to use as your new custom pin it button. This image should be created with a square, logo sized, background.

It is also best if you design the button on a transparent background. You can do this with Picmonkey (which is what I used) or the paid version of Canva.

I really like this video showing how simple it is to create your own Pin it Button with Picmonkey. If you’re struggling, take 3 minutes and take a look.

As you can see below, I chose to use a heart as my image. However, you should your Custom Pin it Button to match your brand. You could use a circle, a square, a rectangle, or any other little shape. Just make sure it fits you!

This image took me no time to make! If you can make a Pinterest image, you can make a Custom Pin it Button. What makes it different and special is the transparent background.

Once you have created your image, go ahead and add it to your media library (found in the sidebar of your WordPress website.)

Once you have activated the plugin, you’ll need to go into its settings.

On the first tab that comes up when you click on settings, scroll down to which pages the custom Pin it Button will be shown. The only thing you need to worry about here is making sure that the button will show up everywhere you want it to.

The only page I had to add was tag (you can see it there at the end.) You don’t have to add that if you don’t want to, it’s just my preference to cover all my bases.

Doing this will ensure that the custom Pin it Button shows up on every image, on every page that you specify.

To be honest, you don’t really need the Pin it Button on every image.

If you want to set a parameter to where the button only shows up on Pinterest Perfect Images, specify height and width where you see “Minimum image resolution.”

I set mine to 1102px X 735px but you can set this to whatever size you use for Pinterest Images.

Next, scroll to the top of the page and click on the “visual” tab. This is where you’re going to add your image.

Scroll down until you see the “Pin image” option. Under “mode”, choose “custom” and you will get a screen that looks like this.

Now all you have to do is click “Upload an image using media library” and select the image that you created.

You’ll have to tinker with the height and width. For my button, I kept it simple; 250px X 250px. So, if you have a square or circle button, that would be a perfect size.

If you have a rectangle button, however, your size will be different.

It took me a few tries to get it right but it’s simple to change so have fun with it and make it true to you!

Now, the last step is to visit your blog and make sure your image looks right. As I said, you may have to tinker with the size to make it fit your image and blog in the right proportions.

How Did You Do?

See, it’s so much easier to create your own Pin it Button than you thought right?
